Since 2016, SOS MEDITERRANEE has supported more than 42,000 people rescued in the Central Mediterranean. Many have faced prolonged barriers to healthcare before undertaking a dangerous sea crossing. Aboard their rescue ship Ocean Viking, emergency response is paired with essential primary care, addressing both urgent conditions and chronic health needs.
This session explores the health challenges encountered by people on the move and the role of maritime search and rescue as a critical point of access to care.
